M.A.D. in May, Saturday the 10th

Monday 05/05/2008 04:39:34 PM - by: jmcallaway

Greetings all!
It's time for another Membership Appreciation Day this Saturday, May 10.  Here's what we have in store...

As usual, we'll be ordering from The Spot Eatery @1:30-2:00 and again at 6:30-7:00.  Come by the break room at those times, and we'll phone in your orders.  Great food at very reasonable prices, definitely something to plan for!

Field Trip to The Time Machine: Back by popular demand, I'll be borrowing my folks' minivan and making a quick run out to the largest gaming and hobby store in New England, The Time Machine.  The plan is to leave around 4:00 and be back by 6:00.

Workshops: We'll be having miniature painting and modelling--assuming I'm not too involved running RPGs this time around.  Luckily, both are in the same room.

Screenings: We never know what's on the screen until it shows up.  It's almost guaranteed to be something strange, rare, or unusual though, so check it out.

Minis: We have Open Gaming.  You bring it, we'll play it!

Cards: As ever, we have room for Open Gaming, so bring your decks.

Board Games: Open Gaming.  If all goes well, we'll have a regular gaming group here running various board games.

Video Games: Open Gaming with VG Throwdown Tournaments!  If 2 or more people playing the same game, we'll suggest having a Throwdown then and
there.  Only $2.00 per person to participate in a Throwdown, to be put towards prize support.  Remember, no drinks or food in the video gaming area, please.

Role Playing: I'm still running the Descent RPG, which is continuing this month.  Descent is a good, old-fashioned dungeon crawl--I'm modifying it as I go along to make things more interesting as an RPG.

On a more serious note...
This M.A.D. will be the last one where we will allow non-members to attend for free.  We'll be checking current memberships against our database, and letting you know if you show up or not.  If this is your first MAD, don't fret...we won't throw you out, but you'll need to purchase a ConnectiCon membership to attend in the future.

On an even more serious note, we've gotten complaints from other businesses and employees who work in the Office & Conference Center about people from our event wandering around the building.  Please remember that we are not the only group that uses the building.  We have to stay in those areas/rooms that are reserved for our event.  If there continues to be complaints, we run the risk of losing the priviledge of using the building to host our MADs.

We can be found at the Newington Office & Conference
Center, 705 North Mountain Road, Newington, CT.  We open our doors at
10:00am, and close at 10:00pm.

See you there!

First Round of Guests Announced!

Wednesday 04/16/2008 01:11:14 PM - by: thehappyguy

We would like to announce that the following guests have confirmed that they will be attending ConnectiCon 2008:

First off we'd like to welcome our first media guest since Peter Mayhew attended in 2004:

Robert Picardo has played a number of reconizable roles in his long list of credits. His most recent, and one of his most popular roles, being the role of Richard Woolsey on "Stargate: Atlantis" and "Stargate SG-1), he has also portrayed The Doctor on "Star Trek: Voyager", voiced the character Amazo on "Justice League", and was Coach Cutlip on "The Wonder Years". He has also lent his acting talents to: "Total Recall", "Batman: The Animated Series", "Dinosaurs", "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.", "HBO's: Tales from the Crypt", "The Pagemaster", "Grim & Evil", "Sabrina the Teenage Witch", "The 4400", "The O.C.", "CSI: NY", "Ben 10: Race Against Time", and many other great characters.

Robert will be at ConnectiCon signing autographs*, greeting fans, hosting panels, and he will be performing a ticketed play on Saturday evening - more details will be available in the near future.

Then we have a rogues gallery of web comic creators:

Tim Buckley, the creator of Ctrl-Alt-Del, will be making his only convention appearance (besides his own Digital Overload) of the year, he'll have a booth in the dealer's room selling merchandise, signing autographs, taking photos. We're working on cooking up some exciting new events that Mr. Buckley would be taking part in so keep your eyes and ears open for exciting news down the stretch.

Scott Ramsoomair, the creator of VGCats, will be making one of his few convention appearances, at ConnectiCon this summer, he'll have a booth in the dealer's room selling merchandise, signing autographs, taking photos. Scott will be participating in a number of our web comic centric panels and workshops.

Brian Clevinger, the creator of 8-bit Theater and Atomic Robo, will be attending ConnectiCon this year. He'll have a booth in the dealer's room selling merchandise, signing autographs, taking photos. He'll also be hosting a Q&A session regarding Atomic Robo and sitting in on a few web and print comic related panels and workshops.

Jeph Jacques, the creator of Questionable Content, will be attending ConnectiCon this year. He'll be hanging out at the DayFree Press booth with the likes of Chris Hastings (Dr. McNinja), Sam Logan (Sam & Fuzzy), Pontus Madsen and Christian Fundin (Little Gamers). Jeph will also be hosting panels on all sorts of nifty stuff, like indie rock, and umm crazy talking birds!

Randy Millholland, the creator of Something Positive, will be attending ConnectiCon this year. He'll have a booth in the dealer's room selling merchandise, signing autographs, taking photos. We're hoping that he'll also GM a couple of RPG events, and host a panel or two featuring his web comics, and gaming.

Hawk & Ananth, the dymanic duo behind AppleGeeks and AGLite, will be attending ConnectiCon this year. They'll have a booth in the dealer's room selling merchandise, signing autographs, taking photos. Hawk will be hosting his amazing how to photoshop panel - this time if you want to give him money, DO NOT THROW IT AT HIM, please just walk up and say, "Dude, you're awesome, I love you stuff, have some money", and hand him some cash! Hawk will also be hosting a "I <3 Apple" panel.

"Mookie", the creator of Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, will be attending ConnectiCon this year. He'll have a booth in the dealer's room selling merchandise, signing autographs, taking photos. He'll also be hosting a slew of panels and workshops on how to rock out and be metal, write awesome characters, which print comics to read - and he will be reprising his ever popular role as the MC of the Cosplay Chess!

There are also a ton of web comic industry guests attending ConnectiCon this summer, as well as a few web comic guests that we're hoping to confirm within the next few weeks.

Sadly, we're going to make you all wait a little while longer before we announce our OTHER media guests, and our assembly of voice talents from some of the best anime series out there!

On a final note, our hotel room block is now around 80% full, so if you're planning on staying at the attached hotel, the one where we host the dances, we suggest you book your room now!

It's time for another Membership Appreciation Day this Saturday, March 8.  Here's what we have in store...

Last MAD, food was provided at our offices by The Spot eatery, saving us all time and money during the event.
As of this MAD, I'm pleased to announce that The Spot is now our official unofficial food provider.  Employees from The Spot will be present in the caffeteria/break room lunchtime (12:00-1:30pm) and dinnertime (5:00-6:30pm), serving good food at great prices.  And just in case what's available dosen't quite tickle your taste buds, or the times are not right, The Spot does deliver.

It's MAD Time Again!

Monday 02/04/2008 04:57:56 PM - by: jmcallaway

Come on over to our offices this Saturday, February 9, from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm.  We don't think that a 3-day convention is enough for a ConnectiCon membership, and neither should you!  You can find us at the Newington Office & Conference Center, 705 North Mountain Road, Newington.

As always, we'll be featuring a selection of events ranging from video games to RPGs, anime to miniatures, plus a little something extra this time for those of you who come over.  What is it?  You'll have to come and see--but it should make your day with us a bit more enjoyable.

See you there!

Hotel Room Block now OPEN!

Friday 01/18/2008 01:29:32 PM - by: thehappyguy

ConnectiCon 2008 attendees are invited to stay at our official convention hotel, the Hartford Marriott Downtown .This is the hotel that is attached to the convention center along the exhibit level , so you won't have to walk 15 minutes from the hotel to the convention center, or wait for the downtown shuttle service.

It is of great importance that ConnectiCon members stay at our official Headquarters Hotel so that we may book a larger room block in future years as well as receive function space for additional events at the hotel.

The rates for rooms this year are $135/night for both single/double occupancy rooms. Rooms MUST be reserved by July 14th, 2008, however, last year our room block sold out quickly, so reserve your room soon!

Room bookings will also require a non-refundable deposit for the first night of your stay.

You can visit the hotel website: http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/bdldt-hartford-marriott-downtown/?groupCode=concona. The convention discount code will be entered in for you.  Alternately you can call 1-866-373-9806 and ask for the ConnectiCon room block.
